Sunday Park Series: Cunningham Park and Alley Pond Park

This Sunday we are going to explore east Queens! Please join us for 6-7 mile run through nature trails and green bike pathways of Cunningham Park and Alley Pond Park.

We'll meet up at 11:00am at Avon Road and 188th St. It's quite out of the way for some of us but the Q17 will drop you off right where we'll be meeting.

Starting off with a nicely groomed trail that marks the very west end of Cunningham Park, we'll run through the main park and on to the southwestern portion that contains the white trail loop of about 1.4 miles.
*Note: Since Sandy, numerous trees have fallen down and have not been cleared. Please be advised that we'll be jumping over and ducking under humongous trees.

After the white loop, we'll head north and hop on the green path also known as the Vanderbilt Motor Parkway for about 2 miles until we reach southern Alley Pond Park. Though it is called Motor Parkway, it is a paved road only for pedestrians and bikes.

Once we get to Alley Pond, we'll head north via white trail, which would take us to the south of the LIE. We'll then jump over to the south trail head of Tulip Tree of northern Alley Pond park which runs parallel to Cross Island Parkway. Those two miles of Alley Pond will land us near Northern Blvd. and Cloverdale Blvd. and that's the end of our run!

Afterward, we'll grab a drink or two if there's sufficient interest. Or you can take Q12 which will take you all the way to Flushing.

We'll aim to run at about 10 min/mile for road and adjust appropriate for trail runs. Please be sure you can complete the distance at such pace. You can look at a very coarsely mapped out route here.

Hi all, the pace requirement has been changed. Sorry about that! Please see if it still suits you.

This run is a bit challenging to get to, but is well worth the trek. I won't be participating this week, but please enjoy the budding trees and trails and let me know how it goes!
