So many of us are currently training for distance races. Let's do a longer run together on Saturday morning.
Let's meet in Windmuller Park in Woodside, on 52nd St., about mid-way between Skillman Ave. and 39th Ave. The park is close to the 7 train at 52nd St., the R at Northern Blvd, the LIRR in Woodside and there is usually some street and bike parking available.
We will start with the Woodside-Sunnyside Runners as part of their casual Saturday morning 3ish mile run at 10:00am, veering off after about 1.5 miles. When we reach Queens Plaza, we will continue along one of your organizer's favorite 10 mile loops that will take us through LIC, Greenpoint, Williamsburg, Bushwick and across an historic trolley bridge in the middle of nowhere into Maspeth and back to Woodside. All told, we will cover between 10-11 miles, total. The route is mostly pretty flat aside from the Pulaski Bridge into Greenpoint and a moderate downhill that we will hit on 69th Street. If there is interest after the run, we can find food and/or beverages.
There will not be a minimum pace set for this run. However, please ensure that you can run a full 11 miles before agreeing to participate. This requirement is for your safety and to ensure that other participants are able to achieve their fitness goals for the day (in other words, we love you - but we want to get a good quality long run without stopping). We will aim for about a 10-11 min/mile pace, but will adapt depending upon who joins us.
Please note that much of this run will include sections that are far from any subway. There are some buses available should you need to drop out early.
Also, don't forget to apply sunblock and bring water if you need it.
