The Women’s Fund of Long Island Established in 1991, the Women’s Fund of Long Island (formerly the Long Island Fund for Women & Girls) invests in the power of women and the dreams of girls. Our vision is a world of justice and opportunity for women and girls, where we serve as the primary decision makers about issues that affect us, have equal voices in the political process, are paid equitably for work, and live in homes and communities without fear of violence.
We are best known for our support of programs and organizations through our annual Social Change Grants, but our work is never limited to dollars. We serve Long Island’s women and girls directly through our various programs, which include gender equity and women’s rights, leadership development, and economic opportunity and financial stability. We also host a variety of educational and thought-provoking events throughout the year.
Since our grassroots beginning, WFLI has:
• Provided grants to more than 200 nonprofit organizations totaling over $1,500,000 • Hosted a banquet dinner featuring guest speaker Madeleine Albright, former U.S. Secretary of State • Launched innovative programs like the Early Years Matter, the Gender Equity in K-12 Education Project, and the Women’s Expo, to support female entrepreneurs • Hosted 17 annual Women Achievers Against the Odds Breakfast events (with nearly 700 attendees in October 2011) to raise funds and celebrate the accomplishments of over 70 honorees • Advocated for pay equity and women’s workplace rights through our Women on the Job program • Co-sponsored successful fundraising events with partners including Eileen Fisher, the Terian Foundation, the Cinema Arts Centre, Champions for Charity, C. Wonder, Appliance World, the Ms. Foundation for Women, fotofoto gallery, Lord & Taylor, and many others.

Executive Director The Women’s Fund of Long Island seeks a dynamic Executive Director who cares passionately about women’s issues and who will work closely with the Board of Directors to fulfill WFLI’s mission. In addition to overseeing the effective and efficient management of WFLI’s day-to-day operations, primary responsibilities of the executive director include the following:
• Develop and oversee our fundraising plan; lead all fundraising efforts and engage the Board of Directors in fundraising work; nurture and expand donor relationships, including support of giving circles and other donor communities. • Lead the Board in developing and overseeing implementation of strategic and business planning efforts that focus on long-term sustainability • Oversee finances, develop organizational and event budgets, and administer the disbursement of funds on a yearly basis • Develop and implement communications and marketing plans to raise awareness about WFLI and our programs and to communicate effectively with supporters • Oversee grant-making program, including review of application and request for proposals documents; coordinating efforts of WFLI Grant Review Committee; ensuring that grants meet current funding priorities (economic opportunity and financial opportunity, gender equity and women’s rights, and leadership); providing technical assistance and capacity-building training using our “Making the Case” social change measurement tool; conducting site visits and building relationships with grantee partners • Lead advocacy efforts on issues affecting women and girls through our Women on the Job program and other programs to educate and raise awareness Other qualifications include: • BA/BS degree required, MA or PhD preferred • Minimum of 5 years (preferably more) experience in the nonprofit sector with progressively increased responsibilities resulting in a senior management position • A track record of successfully raising funds through individual, corporate, and foundation donations, preferably on Long Island • A demonstrated record of successful leadership experience • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the skill to motivate, mentor and inspire others • Expertise in serving as an ambassador and spokesperson in both small, private gatherings as well as larger venues • Ability to be goal-oriented yet with a flexible management style, providing a clear sense of direction to the staff that emphasizes cooperation and teamwork • Ability to manage and complete multiple projects on time • Ability to work collaboratively with the WFLI Board of Directors • Experience working with a wide diversity of communities and issues • A deep understanding of and appreciation for social justice issues, including the shared vulnerabilities and interdependence of Long Island’s women and girls.
Salary: Salary will be commensurate with experience, ranging from $85,000 - $95,000, plus benefits.
