  • This location is shown only to members

We look forward to seeing you at our November meeting.

Talk OutlineThe new timetable introduces more than 1000 extra train services, 1700 extra bus services and 55 extra ferry services every week but nothing is for free. Who are  the winners and losers? Luckily, the Transport NSW provides timetables in easy machine readable formats including, General Transit Feed Specification. You will learn some facts about Greater Sydney public transport area; data manipulation; and presentation (think knitr and ggplot) in R.

About our speakerOndrej Ivanic is a Data Scientist who has worked in the fields of banking, and online payment security. Ondrej likes to crunch data and deliver business insights

Other details: Arrive from 5:45pm for a 6pm talk. Afterwards we will move on to a nearby pub for networking opportunities.

You can find presentation and code here:

master branch contains R code and gh-pages branch has final HTML page:

If you have trouble with Git(Hub) you can download zip (tar) archive from the final HTML page.

In order to run the code by your self you need transport data sets: (~400MB)

Feel free to ask any questions...

I wasn't able to attend because the room was full. Is there any chance we could get a copy of the analysis that was done on the timetables?

Is there any spot left, unclaimed ?
I can come in and stand at the side/back, if that is a possibility.

    November 25, 2013

    • Louise L.

We are only allowed to have 50 in the room. And if 50 attend it will be crowded. So please turn up early if you want a seat.

      Thanks Louise Lor.

sorry guys, for the late notice. Something just came out. I wont be able to make it, so I hope someone can use my spot. Thanks and see you all next time.

Hi, I am unable to attend. Apologies for the late notice.

My apologies for the late RSVP change. I was totally convinced this was on Wednesday, but today I cannot make it. I look forward to seeing the talk's material.

Can I take one of those '3 spots available' ? :)

    November 25, 2013

    • Louise L.

Sorry Tlu and Johann, you are not on the waiting list. And it's too late for that to change. There are 18 people on the waiting list are ahead of you both and most of them will miss out too. FYI 5 people who have been on the waiting list since 7November have been given the available spots that you noticed earlier today.

      November 25, 2013

    • Louise L.

Once again, if any of the 5 people who were given a place can no longer attend, please update your status in case another waiting list participant can come. Or if you are on the waiting list, but can no longer attend, please update your status to no.

When the meeting is closed, migration of people from waiting list to confirmed RSVP occurs manually. Hence the delay.

      Thanks in advance

    Hi there
Unfortunately I am unavailable to go now. I'd love for this presentation to be made available to the group as it looks like a really interesting topic.

      Hi Sax,
Thank you for your update. Materials from tomorrows talk will be shared with the group later this week.

If anyone who was upated to YES rsvp today can no longer attend, please update your new status to no as soon as you can. Thanks!

Is there a waiting list, can I join this session ?(currently it shows RSVPs are closed)

    2 · November 22, 2013

    • Louise L.

79 people have expressed interest in attending. We are limited to 50 confirmed participants. 29 are on the waiting list. I would be super suprised if 29+ people leave the activity. That is why the activity is closed to new RSVPs....

      November 22, 2013

  • Louise L.

Only 3 days to go until Monday's presentation. Many people are on the waiting list and would need at least 24hrs notice to attend. Last month we did have a very large no show rate! Please update your status by Sunday 5pm if you can no longer make it.

    Hi everyone,
Room capacity for our next meeting is strictly limited to 50 attendees. We have a very long waiting list - and it is now closed.

If any YES rsvp realises they can no longer able to attend on November 25th, please update your status as soon as know this. Thanks in advance!

In regards to discussion about single threaded architecture of R. Even it is the case, there are libraries to speed-up some operations

    Looking forward to it!
