Using R to Improve Profitability of Financial Institutions"

Abstract:

At Nomis Solutions we develop software tools that financial institutions worldwide use to manage their pricing and profitability. A key component of our success relies on understanding consumers' price elasticity. We tackle that problem by utilizing our clients' past transaction data. We rely on R to do our data analysis and build price elasticity models that we embed within our software. In this talk we will discuss how we utilize R in our daily work and share a few tips/tricks that we find to be quite useful.

Speaker Bio:

Caner moved to the Bay Area from New York City last summer after finishing his PhD at Columbia University to join Nomis Solutions as a Modeling Analyst. For the last year he has been working on developing price elasticity models for numerous financial products.

Doing R At-Scale, Using Apache Spark and Adatao

Abstract:

In this talk, we'll cover doing R at scale on Hadoop, with an eye toward Apache Spark due to its in-memory interactive speeds.  First we'll do a round-up compare & contrast of available options, including RHadoop, Apache Spark-R, and Adatao pAnalytics. Next, we will attempt a live demo of these technologies. Finally, we will look under the hood of the demo to introduce DDF (Distributed Data Frame), a soon-to-be open source project that provides, among other things, familiar R idioms that take advantage of the power and speed of Spark while hiding away the complexities of parallel (e.g., MapReduce) programming. The DDF API aims to maximize data scientist & data engineer productivity.

Speaker Bio:

Christopher is co-founder & CEO of Adatao. He is a former engineering director of Google Apps, a recipient of the Google Founders’ Award, a Stanford PhD who co-founded two enterprise startups with successful exits, and was a professor and co-founder of the Computer Engineering program at HKUST. He graduated from U.C. Berkeley summa cum laude. Christopher has extensive experience building technology companies that solve enterprise business challenges.

Any chance i can find a replay of Caner Gocmen's presentation? I was unfortunately out of town that day. I would find it very helpful.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
