I am really just getting acquainted with R after years of using mostly SAS and Matlab for data management and analysis. Fairly soon, I would like to be doing things like: estimating linear models, solving optimization problems, computing spatial statistics, back testing financial market strategies...and bootstrapping all of the above.
The recent events look great. Anything related to: academic, dealing with large data sets, Hadoop, Amazon Web Services, parallel algorithms would definitely interest me. Of course, I also hope to learn about things I have not given much thought to before. :)
Not now, but perhaps once my colleagues and I develop expertise in some area, I would like to.
I provide programming and other I.T. support for research projects at the Stanford business school.
