What: Energy Election
When: Saturday July 11th at 10:45 a.m.
Location: Palmer Square (N. Kedzie Ave & Palmer Blvd)
On Saturday July 11th, Chicago Rainforest Action Network and Little Village Environmental Justice Organization will hold an energy election. The election will take place next to Palmer Square ( N. Kedzie Ave & W. Palmer Blvd) in the Logan Square Neighborhood. Voters and passersby will be given educational materials and encouraged to do the right thing and vote to close both the Fisk and Crawford coal fired power plants. Activists will be out speaking with passersbys, holding signs and assisting people to make their vote to end coal in Chicago.
We will be setting up outside the 'Tour de Fat,' a non-profit fair and bike parade that encourages participants to trade their car for a bicycle. The bike parade registration starts at 9 a.m. and the parade starts at 10 a.m., so you can participate in the parade and then assist with the energy election. Bike parade participants are encoraged to 'dress up' their bike and themselves.
Activists will be will be meeting around 10:45 a.m. at the corner of N.Kedzie Ave and W. Palmer Blvd. We may reposition ourselves for better visibility, so if you arrive later and we are not at that corner, we will be nearby (surrounding Palmer Square). Will will stay until appoximately 3 p.m.
