Let's get outdoors, hike some great trails and socialize at the same time.
The Saturday hiking series continues at the North Carolina Museum of Art.
We will walk about 2 ½ miles through the sculptures, on a paved trail with some respectable hills. We will cross over the pedestrian bridge over the interstate, then follow the trail through Meredith to Hillsborough St. Then we will about-face and return. The total distance should be about 5 miles.
Please arrive at 10:00 am. We will depart promptly at 10:10 am and finish around noon near the museum entrance. Please bring water and wear sturdy shoes.
There is no restroom at the trail head but there is one in the museum at the end of the hike. You may tour the museum afterwards on your own. The museum is free, it opens at 10:00 am, and restrooms are behind the reception desk. Museum guards will require that you place your water bottle/pack in a locker, which is also free and behind the reception desk. Just place your stuff in the locker and take the key, pick up your stuff as you leave.
The North Carolina Art Museum is located off of Blue Ridge Rd (2110 Blue Ridge Road, Raleigh, NC). Once you turn into the museum, the parking area and trail head will be on your right. We will meet in this area under a tree near the trail head. If the lot on the right is full there is more parking if you follow the road on the left from the entrance. That parking is located behind the West building.
Follow this link for the museum park map. http://ncartmuseum.org/images/ncma/park-map.pdf (On the map there are the words "A Closer Look" next to the main parking area, the dot next to them is where we will meet and depart from.)
After the hike we can meet for lunch at Which Wich Superior Sandwiches. Which Wich is located off of Lake Boone Trail (4025 Lake Boone Trail, #130). From the NCMA, you would simply take a right out on to Blue Ridge Road then make a right on to Lake Boone Trail. Then the shopping center with Which Wich will be on your right before the 440 belt line. The same complex has 618 Bistro and Buffalo Brothers Pizza and Wings.
