Saturday Morning Hike Bridle Trails @ Umstead Park- US 70 Entrance

Let's get outdoors, hike some neat trails and socialize at the same time.

We hope that the weather will cooperate!! This is a great opportunity to hike some of the nice trails that we have in the area with your friends from RDU Singles.

We will be hiking the 6 mile upper loop of the Bridle Trails @Umstead State Park. We hiked the lower loop of these trails a couple of weeks ago. This trail will be accessed from the US-70 (Glenwood Ave) Entrance and is in the Northern part of Umstead State Park.

These Bridle Trails are multi use with hikers, bikers and horses having access. These trails are quite wide with hard dirt and there are no roots or rocks to negotiate. This is a lengthy and moderate in difficulty trail so please no novice hikers.

Rest Rooms: Are located at the Visitors Center.

We will be leaving at 10:10am sharp!- please do not be late!!! Allow yourself extra time to arrive on time.

DIRECTIONS (PLEASE READ)

The US-70 Entrance is just a few miles east of the intersection of I-540 & US 70 (Brier Creek). Access Umstead State Park via the US-70 entrance (Glenwood Ave). Proceed towards the Visitors Center. When you arrive at Visitors Center (We are not parking there!!) proceed past the Visitors Center , and shortly thereafter take the left fork towards the Maintenance area. Make your first right onto a gravel road, you will see signs for Bridle Trails and make first left (near Maple Hill Lodge) which will lead into the circular parking area where we will be meeting. This parking area is the circular parking area you see on the map. Please allow yourself extra time to find this parking area, for it is a little difficult to find. Please take a look at the map before you leave for a good idea of where you are going (website below).

Coffee after Hike:

We will be meeting at Panera- Brier Creek after the hike. This should be at 12:30- 12:45 or so. We had a great crowd after the hike a couple weeks ago so plan on joining us for socializing and conversation.

Seven of us thought we were to meet at the Visitor Center and had a fun hike.

I enjoyed our hike that those of us who met at the Visitor Center had. Next time I vote that we continue all the way around the lake.

what I meant was can I shorten this hike by taking an alternate route?

      November 23, 2012

    • Steve

There are shorter hiking trails you can access from Visitors Center, or you can hike with us awhile and turn back early

Note that it's the Bridle Trail (as in horses), not the Bridal Trail (as in trail of brides).

Would anyone want to organize a Thanksgiving afternoon hike? My work requires some weekends so I often miss out on the hiking events.
