Introduction: We're Passionate About French
We are passionate about the French language and the worldwide community of Francophone cultures.
The RDV is by design a small, exclusive group of adult French speakers of all nationalities and backgrounds living within the Houston area. The RDV is comprised of mutually supportive people who desire a high-quality but friendly group focused exclusively on French language and culture.
We hold a variety of events each month to gather, speak French and share our mutual interests in all aspects of French culture while having a good time. We all enjoy getting together to chat and meet other Francophones in relaxed social settings.
Our Focus: Exclusively French
Members are enthusiastic about speaking and improving their French language proficiency. French is always spoken at every event. Your French need not be perfect but your best effort is always appreciated. Non-francophone member-accompanied guests are always welcome to attend but we ask that they respect the group's purpose, attempt to blend in and are friendly.
Events are always well-structured, hosted, and intentionally kept to a small, manageable level conducive to easy conversation in friendly, relaxed environments.
For our members quality is more important than quantity. The RDV is much more than simply another something for everyone, unfocused, open-membership, free-for-all, sometimes French/Polyglot/International/Party/Dating social group offering the same tired, repeating weekly events with lots of English spoken. Or a group offering events that simply piggyback onto the events of other groups without any control, recognizable leadership or responsibility, leaving their members to fend for themselves.
Instead, we offer many original events at trendy, upscale yet comfortable venues with a French twist. Good food, wine and cocktails are usually available making for a memorable and pleasant experience.
Our Philosophy: Variety is Good
We're not here to impress anyone. Boasting large membership numbers comprised of mostly beginners or inactive, non-participating, and often non-French speaking members who long ago joined because it was easy then lost interest or moved away simply holds no appeal for us.
We're not trying to be like anyone else. The consistent high quality and positive ratings of our group events (many with photos) complimented by the intellectual maturity and terrific personalities of our friendly members clearly speaks for itself.
Our group focus is on the French language and worldwide community of Francophone cultures, pure and simple. If you're seeking repetitive events inconveniently scheduled for most working adults or those with children (i.e. late weeknights or early weekend mornings) or if you're seeking events where English or a polyglot/international free-for-all mish-mash of languages are spoken then we're definitely not the group for you.
Our focus is unapologetically and clearly on speaking and improving our proficiency in the French language and on increasing our knowledge and appreciation of all aspects of French culture.
We only have one purpose: to share our passion for the French language and for the diverse and vibrant worldwide community of Francophone cultures.
If you are seeking a group that focuses exclusively on the French language, holds small, manageable events at reasonable times, and is limited to friendly people who are passionate about and capable of actually speaking French consistently on at least a basic conversational level then you've come to the right place!
Our Structure: Unique by Design
We're unique by design. We enjoy our friendly, vibrant and cohesive group of quality French speakers who frequently also become friends, network with one another professionally and socialize together outside of our regular group activities.
This group actively seeks to provide fun activities focused on learning about and exposure to the French language and Francophone cultures. If you are traveling to France or are just interested in French culture you're in good company.
As a member, you will have many opportunities to learn more about all aspects of French culture and customs including greeting people when in France, dinner table etiquette, avoiding communication faux pas, learning about French wines and cheeses, cuisine, art, literature, philosophy, politics and French holiday traditions all in a relaxed, friendly environment.
Our events include outings to restaurants, trendy bars, wine tastings, French films, theatre performances, live music, friendly pétanque matches, sporting events, outdoor events, travel and much more throughout the year.
Want to visit Paris, Nice, Toulouse or a particular region of France? We have discussed group-sponsored themed trips to France with special discounted rates for interested members. Ask us for details!
Take a look at our calendar for our current list of upcoming events and choose one to attend today. We would love to get to know you!
Our Membership: Private & Discrete
Membership dues are $12 annually. Newcomers are provided with a thirty day trial membership to decide if the group is right for them. Non-paying and inactive members are removed without exception at regular intervals to keep our membership list current and the group vibrant.
Although it is only a small amount, the dues have noticeably helped the group improve the overall quality of our membership while also helping to avoid individuals who frivolously join multiple (20, 40 or more!) open-membership groups from simply adding us to their ever growing list. We believe having a stake in the group encourages active participation by intelligent, discerning people who are sincerely interested in practicing and improving their French. Dues also help us to defray the not insignificant website fees.
There is never a charge for attending regular RDV events, so come along and keep us company at our next event!
Our members are without exception mature adults (ages 21+) representing French, American and an assortment of other nationalities and professional backgrounds. The level of fluency in French within the group ranges from those members possessing basic conversational skills to native speakers. Native speakers represent approximately one-half of our membership. Children are welcome at some events. Everyone is always friendly and supportive.
Our Events: Original, Fun & Organized
One of the many reasons the RDV is unique compared with other groups is that we offer high-quality structured and hosted events focused only on the French language and culture. We continually seek improvement, evolve and possess a clear group purpose focusing exclusively on the French language and Francophone cultures.
Members must be able to speak French on at least a basic conversational level. We do not have the resources to teach complete beginners French. Those possessing absolutely no ability to speak French should seek instruction elsewhere and then consider joining at a later time. However, if you have completed even one or two years of high school or college French in the past you are probably ready. Come join us!
Our event venues are always interesting and fun with a French twist. Members are relaxed, social and always friendly.
What to Expect: Always Positive & Supportive
Our members are never left to fend for themselves. You will always be greeted, feel welcomed, made comfortable, introduced to others, included in activities, be able to locate and identify other group members, and always experience organized hosted events facilitated by friendly, recognizable, mature and responsible leadership.
Group Statistics: Updated & Accurate
Unlike many groups, we update the attendance list after each event as accurately as we can, often accompanied by photos, so that our group's pages really do reflect what is going on at the RDV and what new members can actually expect.
Likewise, we regularly update our membership list to accurately reflect only those individuals who are actually currently either trial newcomers or paid active members in good standing.
Looking Ahead: Fun, Friendship & French!
Your event RSVP is important! It helps us plan better events and it demonstrates to other members that you really want to meet them too. If you intend to join us for an event please RSVP "Yes." You never need to RSVP "No" if you will not be attending an event.
Please help our group get to know you by completing your profile when you join, providing an appropriate profile photo of yourself, demonstrating courtesy by providing a "Yes" RSVP for events you plan to attend, being punctual for events, and by participating whenever possible.
Together monolingualism can be cured!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
