St. Louis County Proposed Park Closings

A former member
Post #: 7
For anyone who has not been following the ongoing discussions from the past week, the St. Louis County Parks Department, headed by Charles Dooley, is proposing closing 20 parks in their system, a few of which are Greensfelder, West Tyson (Chubb Trail), and Lone Elk.

This is the Park Map Closings in pdf.

Here is the Stltoday article.

This is one of the few Online Petitions going around. Please take a few moments and sign the petition to show how much we love and enjoy our parks, even for those of us who do not live in St. Louis County (myself included).

And here is Dooley's Cover Letter and 2012 budget summary and detail.

Please click here if you like to check out the ongoing discussion from the GORG forum.

This really is big news for all mountain bikers, hikers, equestrians, and all who enjoy the parks alike. The scary part is they actually sent layoff and demotion letters to their park employees which to many show how serious they are about this. Perhaps this is all just a political ploy for something else, who knows. That fact remains they are talking about closing many of our most treasured parks in our entire area.
