ROAD SAFETY SITUATION IN INDIA

“It takes a female to have a baby,
It takes a woman to raise a child,
It takes a mother to raise them correctly,
It takes a warrior to show them how to change the world.”

― Shannon L. Alder

Road Safety is undoubtedly the highest ranking public health issue we face in India. In the year 2012, a total of 440042 traffic crashes were reported which cause 469913 injured, 139091 killed out of them 118533 male and 20558 are female.

The above graph depicts the persons killed age wise in India in the year,2012. In male and female the major effected people are in the age group of 15 to 59 out of which 30 to 44 take first rank, 15 to 29 second rank and the 45 to 59 is in third rank. Most of the persons effected in these age groups are main bread winners of their families. If think of the road crash victims family, they will under go lots of troubles as they lost their support. Not only this apart from this the total 469913 out of which male 379463, female 90450 were suffered due to injures during the year 2012 shown in the below graph.

In these accidental death if we look in to deep the accidents due to class of vehicle wise is shown in the below diagram. Two wheelers crashes take the major share with 23.34% followed by Truck/Lorry 19.18%, Car 10.14%, bus 9.40%, pedestrian 8.32%, Jeep 6.67%, Tempo/Van 5.67%, Three Wheeler 4.84% and Bicycle 2.21%. The three classes of vehicles shown in red color are having major share in the Road Crashes.

The aim of this club is to create "Road Safety circles" among the road users and improve their knowledge and skills to reduce the accidents. If we see the above statistics most of the accident victims are users of Two wheelers, Truck/Lorry and Car. Let us go to them "educate, enlighten and empower" to live long.
