The Auld Sod

  • Mar 9, 2014 · 2:00 PM
  • Victory Cafe

Since St. Patrick's Day is this month, let's do Irish writing!  Writers like Edmund Spenser, Jonathan Swift, Oscar Wilde, William Butler Yeats, James Joyce, George Bernard Shaw, Frank O'Connor, Seamus Heaney, Roddy Doyle... And even diaspora writers like Flannery O'Connor and Brian Moore and Frank McCourt...

As usual, if you want to read something off-topic or you'd rather just listen, that's OK with us.  And if you want to read your own writing, so much the better!

Butler's Pantry is in Mirvish Village, just southwest of Honest Ed's, near the Bathurst subway station.

Good meet up today, James. Thanks. Could hear every word at the Victory Cafe. And without a mike. :) Enjoyed reading and listening to this group of friendly and talented people.

This will be my first outing with the group. Will likely just listen, but welcome encouragement to do otherwise. Looking forward to it.

If you want to share a poem you have written, or just talk about authors you most admire, you can do so on my blog page at markgordonauthor.com Just waiting to see those poems and comments, guys. :)

Hello, James. I'm going to try to attend in March. Would like to invite everyone to visit my website, which I've just finished building. :) at markgordonauthor.com .

I would be interested in joining the group, because I have had some of my poetry published and I have studied Irish writers and poets when I took a course at Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland.

The more the merrier! I'd be interested in hearing some of your poems.

I'm new to this. What's going on that day? I can recite from memory "The Second Coming" by Yeats if that helps.

People are reading literature out loud, preferably Irish writing this month. I'd be pleased to hear "The Second Coming" (though it doesn't have to be from memory).
