Backyard campfire

Let's bring guitars and harmonicas, and sing Kumbaya, read poetry, and tell goofy stories at a backyard campfire (allowed?) while chowing on our most gourmet homemade potluck-style offerings. With really good wine and beer.

We had a great time at the June 17 campfire! My co-host, Tim, really came through with a heap of firewood and enough brats, spicy sausages, hotdogs, and s'mores for all. We would've all been schlepping our stuff back and forth, but Tony delivered the goods with his awesome, collapsable wagon. Everyone brought something to share, so we ended up with a feast of fruit salad, plus cherries & berries, chips & salsa, grilled meats and eggplant, apple juice, sodas, waters, homemade toffee, and s'mores. We had a really great, relaxing evening, getting to know each other while roasting and grilling over the roaring bonfire Tim and Tony built. In all, 10 Rugfaints participated: Tim, Amy, Tony, Tim (2 Tims!), Amanda, Pov, Jenni, Julia, Becky, and Michelle. Thanks, everyone, for such a great time.

Hey I'm hoping it will come off. I tried sending a message via the email link, but got no replies. I have tons of fire wood I can bring. If we need anything else let me know.

Hi Folks! This ad-hoc event that started as an "idea" ended up as a formal event without my awareness. However it will need a host for the time/date chosen as I have conflicts and will be unable to do it. Anyone interested?

Just joined this group, is this potluck style anyone bring anything? Or is someone good at being a contact for what kind of things are needed?

So the location is Grizzly Peak Blvd? Sounds great to me! So, now we just need to choose a date everyone. Does Sat, March 5th or Sat, March 12th appeal to anyone? I think its a great idea, Amy , to bring some extra pals of yours...more the merrier :)

Redwood or Tilden are my vote. The group could plan a second outing to the beach in SF?

I also like Redwood Park. Another suggestion is Tilden Park. There are campgrounds with firepits located above the Little Farm. I don't know much about fees, etc. but have camped there once years ago with a group.

Sheila, Redwood Park is really beautiful! For anyone who wants to check out details, here is the link: http://www.ebparks.org/parks/re.... I'll call the park on Monday to check fees and policies. Are there any other members who want to vote/give feedback: Ocean Beach or Redwood Park?

Redwood Park up in the Oakland Hills has a public fire pit with tiered seats and one or two long wooden tables. I think it's called the "campfire grove" and is a short walk from the Redwood Road parking lot. I know it can be reserved by groups, but don't know the details.

Ocean beach sounds like a lovely idea, Kelly. The 10pm curfew at the Marina is a bit off putting.

Yay! First step accomplished...Amy made it an official event. Now, I looked up Emeryville Marina and didnt find many specifics on fire pits & their rules. I know their gate closes at 10pm. The only other option Ive seen so far is Ocean Beach in SF right by the Cliffhouse. Thoughts? We could start at say 4pm and watch sunset...

The Emeryville Marina has a firepit as well as benches tables. I believe that for less than ten people a fire permit is not required. However, I recommend checking with the park if this venu is chosen.

Does anyone have a backyard firepit or know of a place we can enjoy food, drink, conversation, music over the warmth of a fire?

I also suggest a Saturday evening also, perhaps in late March? Mainly, we need a place. Does anyone have a place in mind?

Let's make this happen! Someone just has to choose a date and then I think it takes a min of 3 people attending to make it official. For this particular event, I personally would prefer a weekend evening. Thoughts?
