How do I become an Event Organizer or Assistant Organizer?

For what it's like being an organizer you can ask them or Ashley , Don, Clara or Theresa what to expect. You can also choose to organize a singular event without becoming a Group Organizer, this is called an Event Organizer.

The requirements for being an Organizer are very simple:
-You must be over the age of 21 and have a volunteering spirit!
-You must be committed to promoting an equitable and open forum at all of our events to make our members and their guests feel welcome.
-You must be patient.
-You must be open to doing joint events with other coordinators or groups.
-You must have fun! smile
-You must not be a business owner who is there to promote their business*
-You must not at anytime promote a business/company*

*Please Note: Meetup groups are more appealing to members (and potential members) when we keep things commercially-minimal. :) Promotion of charitable causes may be allowed on a case by case basis and may be voted on by all the organizers and possibly voted upon by the entire current membership prior to being promoted by the IMF Meetup Group.




Why does nme/do the organizers not answer some of my e-mails right away?

As for me (nme), I, like most of you, also have other things outside of Meetup that take from my time. I try to log in at least every other day and answer questions that might not seem so obvious when possible. If it’s an emergency, you can always try to contact one of the wonderful organizers we have : Ashley, Clara , Don or Theresa. . . between the five of us, there is usually someone on twice a day if not three times a day to help answer your questions.
Also, sometimes the answer you are looking for is on the website. I’d like to give everyone the opportunity to locate what they are looking for on their own, first. I do not believe in purposely bombarding folks with information that is readily available. We are a fun easy-going group, let’s remain that way and enjoy ourselves! smile




Joining for the sole purpose of e-soliciting or soliciting in person

We have never collected dues, and our sponsors (past or present) have never paid our dues to assure that our members are never pressured into accepting offers or patron exclusive vendors/restaurants/event spaces/special interest groups. This is not by accident. It keeps our group unique, friendly and welcoming.

So, naturally, joining IMF for the sole purpose of spamming our group, soliciting or proselytizing is STRICTLY PROHIBITED. If you come to an event and start passing out business cards or the like, or e-mail the group to sell something or make an offer that involves money - you will be removed from the group immediately and banished. Remember - blatant soliciting is not allowed.

However, if members of our group do business/share a special interest or idea by meeting while at one of our social gatherings, that is another issue entirely and something which we do not control and is entirely normal. But if it we receive complaints, we will talk to that individual to ask the behavior to stop or remove that individual from the group if they decline to curb their behavior.

Essentially, we do not want anyone to dread coming to an event because someone might be there forcing their products/services on them. There are plenty of other groups on Meetup to satisfy special interest - even business- niches where that can be done. Let’s keep IMF a fun group to hang out with! smile





I am a business owner and would like to extend special (non-binding) offers to your group. How do I do that?

First, please consider going to http://livingsocial.com/ to advertise your special.

Otherwise, this is a tough one. We have a general no soliciting policy with IMF. If you write one of the organizers and discuss your ideas that would be the best route. Writing to the entire membership without consent is strictly prohibited and constitutes immediate removal from the group and possible reporting to the Better Business Bureau. . . We protect and value our members!
