What a fantastic weekend! So between 'in port' MOB's, parting halyards, protests/counter protests, gorgeous sunshine and good company... I have to say I had a great time! Great to meet everyone and look forward to sailing with you all again soon! Luckily my GoPro camera actually worked in the end so I'll upload some footage/photo's soon. I will share photo's etc via Facebook so feel free to look me up (Gary Hewitt).
BTW: I failed to put into the kitty for Hurricane for our on board drinks after Satuday's race. I'll buy a beer or three for the ladies who kindly did the shopping!

I have only just received our charter details for the friday
Just to be clear everyone who has booked both days can stay on the boat friday and saturday night.
Hurricane and Wolverine are out on charter on the friday but will be able to pickup at Gunwharf quay portsmouth between 1730hrs and 1830hrs on the friday eve. We will then be heading off to Cowes Yacht Haven if you are unable to join the boats at Gunwharf just get the ferry over to the island and join us later that evening. if not on the boat we will be in the event village or the Anchor Pub. On Sunday after the racing we will sail to Portsmouth to drop you all off.
People Day sailing on the saturday are welcome to sail over with us on the friday but there will not be room to stay on the boats as we are already crammed in.
Gunwharf Quay is directly below the spinnaker tower near the train station and parking for the shopping center.
I am short of crew information but will post crew splits later today
    all the best

Can we meet the boat in Port Solent on Friday evening or do we need to come to Cowes? Please respond, we need to make arrangements including time off work if necessary. Looking forward to it. Hi Peter, I've raced dinghy's at national level for 10 years or so, but have only sailed on a yacht once! Hope that helps! I have no preference so you can put me anywhere :)

Peter, I've got 15 years sailing experience, and this year focussed on racing in Frostbite, Spring and Summer series. I've been in Pit racing this year so am confident there, however I can helm, navigate and trim, whatever is needed.

Hi Peter - done a bit of racing with Bernadette so happy to assist Pit with 'Grinder Pit'. Also happy to be wherever else needed. Please can you confirm you've received payment and whether or not Bernadette and I can stay on boat on Friday night. Many thanks. Kate

Hi Peter - have some racing experience and can assist in Jib trimming. Can we sleep on the boat on friday?

    July 25, 2013

  • Bernadette

Hi Peter - I would like to put my hand up for Pit as I have quite a bit of racing experience in that position, most recently Round the Island race this year in an X442. (I can do other things if required.) Have you confirmed Kate Whyatt? She has paid for both days but not heard anything. Also, are Kate and I able to sleep on the boat on Friday night? Thanks.

    New to racing
When racing the most important thing is to be observant and anticipate what is going to happen next, whether checking the other boats that may force us to tack or duck when crossing or looking for gusts and tidal changes. Watching the sails for slipped halyards causing bad trim etc. Most races have incidents snagged ropes slipping cleats trailing spinnaker sheets it is important for all the crew to be looking out for these things and try to prevent them happening or fixing them when they happen. Crew positions and duties will be covered in greater detail at the daily crew briefing. Always be prepared for strong winds as in the Solent strong sea breezes can form on apparently calm days.

    Food arrangements
We will have breakfast before leaving the dock each morning lunch will be eaten while racing so will be limited to what you can fit into your pockets and eat with one hand. Fruit chocolate bars etc are best. We will be back at the dock early afternoon when we can have a more substantial meal before the evening entertainment.

    Personal Injury
We advise you to take out your own personal injury insurance, as you will be required to sign an agreement preventing claims against me and everyone else.

    July 24, 2013

  • Peter C.

    Conduct and etiquette
Please pack up all your kit each morning into your bag as it may be moved around the boat to distribute weight. Use clean non marking deck shoes on the boat or bare feet and keep a separate pair of shoes if going ashore, walking dirt chewing gum etc onto a clean white boat is not the done thing. Showers and toilets are provided ashore use these whenever possible. While racing the onboard toilet pipes may be closed for safety reasons, please ask before using. Do not put anything down the onboard toilets unless you have eaten it first or a limited amount of the toilet paper provided, blocking the onboard toilets is very bad form.

    July 24, 2013

  • Peter C.

    Stuff to bring
As we are racing please limit your personal kit to the minimum we will be fitting a full race crew 12 into 10 berth boats so space and importantly weight is limited.
Bring a sleeping bag and a pillowcase put your warm jumper and towel etc into the pillowcase as a pillow, clothes for two days only, wet weather gear, warm top, wash kit and towel, non-marking deck shoes for onboard and separate shoes for ashore. Sunglasses sun cream and a hat. Seasickness pills if you are prone. Please fit it all into one soft bag.

    Hi all
I have been busy with the logistics of entering both boats but we now have full crews with one dropout so we still have one space available.
I now have to divide you into two even crews so to help me with this can you all please read the following posts and give me a brief synopsis of your experience and skills and the position you think most suits you.
I am considering getting crew polo shirts made up for each boat at around £20 each if you would like one please pay £20 into the bank account and give me your size I will need this by Thursday to get them in time. I will post our itinerary later when I know more on exact arrangements.
Hope you all find this useful

    Hi All
The response for this meetup here and on the London Sailing Club meetup has been great so I have managed to provisionally book our sister yacht Wolverine to cater for the numbers. To confirm your place please forward payment to HMC LTD sort code[masked] account[masked] using your name as a reference. I will post when the boats are full. At the moment it looks as if we have one more space to fill both boats assuming all the RSVPs are for both days, please post hear to let me know if you are day sailing.
Looks like it will be a great weekend with some boat on boat match race action during the day and some serious party action at night.

    speak soon
