Introduction

I am a 25 year old grad student, British radical feminist living in NYC since August last year. I am fairly new to activism outside of petitions and big marches but would like to get involved in more actions and meet other radical feminists.

What are your thoughts about and stance on feminism and sex equality?

I am a radical feminist. That means my definition of the goals of feminism is not 'equality' (equal to what?) but the liberation of women from patriarchal oppression. That means joining the dots between all the manifestations of patriarchy and uncovering its systemic logic to better fight against it. It means solidarity with all women to fight against misogyny in all its forms. It means a deep project of examining my own internalized misogyny and encouraging others to do the same. I think reformism has a lot of value - we need solutions for the here and now, but that should not stand in the way of activism for more systemic change.

Do you have any background in activism (feminist or otherwise)?

Marches against higher education fees in UK, marches for Occupy Wall St, marches for women's rights - One Million Women Rise, Reclaim the Night, attended UK Feminista summer school for feminist activism in 2011, letter writing to MPs on a number of issues, petitions etc. I also led a successful campaign to restore self-catering facilities to students at my university.

What social issues do you strongly care about?

All forms of oppression, but mostly I am focused on sex-based oppression but I also care very strongly about economic oppression/capitalism, race-based oppression, and global inequality.

Any favorite sayings, quotes, slogans, etc.?

'Have you ever wondered why we are not just in armed combat against you? It's not because there are a shortage of kitchen knives in this country. It is because we believe in your humanity, against all the evidence.' Andrea Dworkin 'The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.' Gloria Steinem

And you quote Andrea Dworkin! She was such an amazing, powerful voice--so maligned and misunderstood. Welcome! Please come to a meetup sometime! We have that social event coming up, hope to see you therre!
