RRTU Monday Fly Tying Nights

Here are the dates for our next tying nights. Great to see some new people and of course the usual gang. If anyone has some pattern suggestions, please post and I will try to put them on a list to tie at the upcoming nights.

The meetings are free and are open to all. All tying levels are welcome. We have extra materials and vices for those who need them and there are volunteers who will work with the new people who want to try fly tying. We have free coffee and donuts and always have a fly fishing DVD playing. This is a very informal get together with the purpose of sharing our hobby with other people who want to find out what it is all about in a laid back atmosphere. You will find it to be a very relaxing evening even if you don't want to tie flies. Come down and have a cup of coffee and meet a great bunch of guys, talk fishing or sports (no politics) or pick up some tying tips.

Another fun night with the gang. We have such a special group of characters at the tying nights and the time just seems to fly by. It's good to see some new people at the vices and watch the progress made by the advanced guys. I hope the newbies learned some tying techniques and will stick with it to watch their own progress as the months pass. The great thing about our group is that everyone is willing to teach and help others to make this an enjoyable evening. As always, any questions are welcome and remember we all started at the same point. Have fun, see ya next time.

Tom's report is well thought out summary of our meeting. Professor Jake was on top of his game.

Another VG turnout, with 15 attendees, while we missed a few of our regulars. Really good to see you up and about, Greg!!! Jake was busy instructing, with a full table of tiers, and others watching on. Jason showed me how to tie a deer hair caddis in 2 styles. And lots of chatter about recent fishing and overall low flows. Hopefully that'll change with the Wednesday and weekend prediction of some good precip. Nice seeing everyone.

I think we will tie 2 patterns that will be important in the upcoming months on the stream. 1) elk wing caddis 2) spinner
We will need #14,16 dry fly hooks, tan or brown thread, deer or elk hair, white poly for wing, dry fly dubbing(beaver, fine poly) micro fibbets or stiff hackle fibers. Don't forget to bring your hair stacker and a fine comb. See ya Monday.
