General Meeting & Lenny Ruggia Presentation "Flies That Work at KLG"

Starting this September 2013 Rahway River Trout Unlimited Chapter will now meet on the third Monday of each month. RRTU holds its monthly general meeting at the Cranford Community Center at 7:30. Following the agenda we usually have a guest speaker perform a presentation. This months meeting we will host Veteran Fly Fisher Len Ruggia. We know Lenny best from Shannon's Fly and Tackle Shop as a sales associate, fishing guide and fly tying instructor. He will do a program entitled "Flies That Work in The Gorge"  which will demonstrate patterns he ties and developed specifically for year-round success in the Ken Lockwood Gorge section of the South Branch.

I thought Lenny gave a real good presentation last night. As I was telling a fellow member last night, what you saw in Lenny's fly selection was what I think is the "end of the circle". What I mean is that when we start out in this venture most of us read all the newest fly fishing magazines that have the latest "hot" patterns and all of the newest materials that you MUST have. When you go to the fly fishing shows, you are like a kid in a candy store. You come home and go through a mountain of tying materials. Hey, it's O.K. We all have been there. Now when I go to the show I maybe get a couple items. The point is, that after all, simple is best. Most of he patterns he showed last night were basic materials: peacock, phesant, dubbing, yea there was some ice dub but overall the patterns were simple. That's the point! Simple patterns presented in a natural drift. Circle complete! I asked for a list of the patterns that Lenny presented and when I get them I will post. See ya Monday night.

Are we tying tonight or just a meeting?

We have CCC rooms reserved for Sep 16, Oct 21 and Nov 18. We were not able to get the AV room because the library is holding some event.

I'm looking forward to fly fishing at Lockwood Gorge this fall with other RRTU members.
