RRTU Monday Fly Tying Nights

The meetings are free and are open to all. All tying levels are welcome. We have extra materials and vices for those who need them and there are volunteers who will work with the new people who want to try fly tying. We have free coffee and donuts and always have a fly fishing DVD playing. This is a very informal get together with the purpose of sharing our hobby with other people who want to find out what it is all about in a laid back atmosphere. You will find it to be a very relaxing evening even if you don't want to tie flies. Come down and have a cup of coffee and meet a great bunch of guys, talk fishing or sports (no politics) or pick up some tying tips.
***If anyone has some pattern suggestions, please post and I will try to put them on a list to tie at the upcoming nights.***

Awesome coaching. I really did not think I would be able to tie one of these. I ended up tying four of them with only one fur ball. :-) Great fun, thanks!

O.K., I will admit I wasn't sure how the tying would go with trico spinners on the menu...however I was pleasantly surprised at the results of the guys efforts! There are some tricky steps to this pattern and a lot of beginners would curse up a storm, but tonight the boys were on their "A" game. After I walked them through the first attempt I thought I would be handed a fur ball on a hook, but all the guys showed me their flies and I was amazed at the great job by all. After a couple more flies a couple guys tied one on a #22 and #24 hook. Great job guys! I can't wait to hear about the trout that you take on those flies. You make the old man proud..

Another great session taught by Jake- Tricos on #18 hooks! Learned the trick to tie on fibbets. Also, leader and tibbet tying for weighted nymphs.

    Thanks, Jake

Im sorry I missed last tying night but I heard Brian stepped up to the plate and did a great job with the crew. Next tying night (7th) we will try Trico's again. They should be popping on the Pa. Limestones any day now. I will be taking a tungsten bead order so have your requests ready. I don't need the money just your order. I will bring in samples of the beads on Monday. We will be starting out on size # 18 hooks and go down in size after that. Let's stretch our legs and test our tying skills. See ya Monday.

But tricos are still a good choice to tie, wherever you are.

Hey folks! If you haven't already, check out Caddis Chronicles, Matt Grobert's blog, to see what Jason caught on Vinnie's iso fly. Is that teamwork, or what? Although Tim & Joan Flagler's video is excellent (as usual), maybe we can convince Vinnie to do a hands-on demo of his creation at a future FTN. All in favor, say 'Aye'...
