If they have plenty of space, it COULD be lack of protein in their diet, or 
just mean ol' hens.  Sometimes they do that to a younger one brought in and 
will nearly scalp them to the bone.  You have to take them away from the 
flock the minute you see blood, because they become sharks all the sudden. 
I continue to try to put the pecked hens back in after they have completely 
healed.  Most of the time, I don't have to pull them out a 2nd time.

Space is my #1 thought.. but you said you had plenty of space.. check 
protein in the diet..

I would like to get suggestions for both treating hens who have been 
pecked -- missing feathers and to prevent this.  I don't know what is 
causing this,  I have three hens and one of them is brutalizing the other 
two.  They have plenty of space, food and water...
