The Raleigh Rock Climbing Meetup Message Board › American Alpine Club Wilderness First Aid Class
When: March 27-28, 2010
Where: Umstead State Park, Raleigh, NC
Are you prepared to deal with a medical emergency in a remote climbing area? Could you provide appropriate care for an injured rope mate in the event of a climbing accident? When did you last refresh your first aid skills?
The AAC Southern Appalachian Section is offering its members a unique opportunity to acquire Red Cross Wilderness First Aid certification through a class designed for climbers, taught by a climber.
WFA is a basic class in back country emergency response. The 16 hour course will be tailored by the instructor, AAC member Danny McCracken, to the specifics of the remote climbing environment - far from EMS services. Successful completion of the course results in three year certification. The class will cover assessment and urgent first aid techniques. It is appropriate for anyone regardless of experience level. No prerequisites are required.
The class will be taught at Umstead State Park, Raleigh, NC. The park has camping sites available. Out of town attendees should go to the NC State Parks web site to reserve a site. Hotel information is also available from Danny McCracken at the email address below.
