Providing A Meal at Ronald McDonald House

  • Needs a date

  • Needs a location

  • I did this awhile ago with a small group of friends, but I know that providing a meal to these families is a great relief. Many don't eat much or eat at the hospital for many of their meals. My group provided breakfast many moons ago which requires being there around 5:00 or 5:30 AM, but there are opportunities to provide lunch or dinner as well.

    Here is their description:

"We need volunteers to support our families by providng, preparing, and serving meals at our Houses. We have full kitchens that have almost everything you need including ovens, microwaves, sinks, pots, pans, silverware, plates, etc.

We need your group to plan a menu, prepare it in our kitchens, serve our families, and clean up before you leave! We have breakfast, lunch and dinner times available to serve, and your group can come once, or we can create a schedule that allows you to come once a quarter, once per month, or once per year!"

Anyone interested? You only need a group of about 5-7.

I've provided meals for the Ronald McDonald House in ABQ, NM. I'd love to do it again.

If this is on a Friday or Saturday I would love to join you. Again it just depends on the date.

I would very much enjoy helping out with this. Good meals to feed a large number of people are: pasta, rice, sandwiches.

Yikes! I am pretty new to this Meetup stuff. I have never hosted or been an organizer. But I would be willing to host. It would have to be on a weekend.

Great! So Kathryn and Amy, would you be willing to take the lead? I can/will make you either event hosts for this one time, or assistant organizers and you can schedule the meetup on your own in the future.... please let me know!!

I like the "organized potluck" idea that Tiffany had. What my group did though was bascially appoint one person to be the grocery shopper, and everyone donated a little money. Then, a menu was decided upon. And the shopper did the shopping and brought everything to the house.

My experience on dietary restrictions was the same (never had someone raise a concern) and their gratitude was overwhelming.

Diana, what I found in my experience there is that most people don't have many or any dietary restrictions. I did this for awhile, and only once did someone tell me they were lactose intolerance so they were going to have orange juice instead of the milk we had brought. They were all just very greatful we had come, cooked and they could have a meal.

I am available to work at the one in aurora it is close to my home. I like the idea of a pot luck if we know the dietary needs of the families?

I would like to do it, but probably only on a weekend as I live in Fort Collins and also work evenings M-F.

Great idea! If someone is willing to coordinate, I can make you either event host or assistant organizer; whichever you prefer; and you take this on as your own event in the future. Please let me know and I will gladly do it!

Did this a few years ago for dinner and it was great! We treated it as an "organized potluck" with each person volunteering to bring in what they were able to. Looking forward to it!

I would be interested in participating for either lunch or dinner. I'll do the best I can to help provide part of the meal. However, my budget is tight until I find employment to fund my charitable desires.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
