Kid Friendly Project

I think it would be cool if we could make something that would make kids eyes light up when they see it. For example, some sort of remote controlled nerf gun. We could split the cost and put it together during a meetup then keep it as our mascot. Any ideas for fun projects?

A couple of ideas come to mind.

A small robot chassis with an arduino, a motor shield, and an Xbee interface. Put a USB-Xbee interface on the Raspi, and have the kids write programs to send commands to the robot. A blinking light 'cannon' or even a nerf cannon would work well with this.

Another robot idea would be to have the robot capable of dragging a marker along. Put it down on a big piece of paper and have the kids program the robot to write messages.

Third thought. a small X-Y plotter, and have the kids write programs to draw on the page.
