Whether you're interested in exploring a high raw food diet, simply adding more fresh fruits and veggies to your current routine, or just curious about the raw food lifestyle, our potluck is a great place to experiment and try new things. Join us as we introduce our Veg Life & Whole Health group to the fun and vitality of raw foods!
What are raw/living foods?
A raw food diet is mainly comprised of uncooked and unprocessed foods, including nuts, sprouts, beans, fresh juice, grains, fresh and dried fruit and vegetables. Aside from eating foods raw, in their natural state, food can be soaked, sprouted, dried, fermented, blended or juiced, to create an array of healthy and satisfying dishes.
Why eat uncooked whole plant-based foods?
It is believed that heating destroys essential enzymes in our food that are beneficial for absorption and digestion. Simply adding a higher percentage of raw, unprocessed, plant-based foods to one's diet can bring about many health improvements, including weight loss, better digestion, healthier skin, increased energy, as well as, improvement of many chronic and degenerative health conditions.
Come check out some tools we've found helpful for raw food preparation, such as a high speed blender, spiral slicer, juicer and dehydrator. We'll discuss the spectrum of raw food diets, as well as, share some samples and our favorite raw food resources.
Please bring along a 100% raw vegan (no animal products, including honey) dish to share to feed six to eight people. Raw dishes range from the simple salad or fruit bowl to more elaborate recipes, such as pies, cookies, spaghetti, pizza and more! Search on-line for recipe ideas if you need inspiration... the options are plentiful! Please bring a recipe or ingredient list for those with food allergies or sensitivities.
Note: If possible, please bring your own place setting (plate, cup, silverware, etc) to ensure we have enough to go around and to minimize disposable waste, though there will be some available, should you forget. :-)
