It was literally "standing room only" at the first meeting of The Des Moines Raw Food MeetUp group on January 7, 2008...and the event was deemed a resounding success by those 40+ people who were in attendance!
The night started off with an introduction by Teri Wood, owner of East Village Books. In introducing our Meetup Organizer Sheree Clark, Teri mentioned the fact that Sheree has authored three books and is a feature writer for two design magazines. She is a graduate of Living Light Culinary Institute, where she received her certification as a Raw Culinary Arts Associate Chef and Instructor. Sheree co-owns Sayles Graphic Design here in Des Moines and has also founded a consulting firm called ?Living Raw? (livingtherawlife.com) to help people transition to a healthier way of eating.
Sheree delivered an interesting PowerPoint Presentation called: "Living Raw 101.? This presentation covered the benefits of living raw and gave pointers on how to transition into a raw lifestyle. A juicing and ?cooking? demonstration followed the presentation. Sheree was assisted by Amy Heinz, owner of Integrated Massage Therapy [masked]-1304.) Amy made a thirst quenching ?green? juice for the crowd to sample, which was followed by Sheree?s zucchini spaghetti and marinara sauce. Many enthusiastic Meetup members brought fabulous raw food dishes for everyone to enjoy! (And we did!)
Are you curious about this "raw food lifestyle" you keep hearing about?! Come to a local Raw Food Meetup to have fun, share raw food meals, and discuss diet and health issues. We'll have speakers, see live food prep demos and learn a lot. Anyone interested in the raw/live food diet and lifestyle is welcome! Our purpose is to provide support, share knowledge and eat things that make us feel great. It doesn't matter if you are 100% raw vegan or just want to learn more, all are welcome!
