River Books and Amazing Tones)
Author Panels and Author Meet and Greet: Your Chance to Learn How Books Are Created 1-3pm at Amazing Tones Music, 1141 Falls River Ave 110, Raleigh, NC 27614
Meet our local authors in two panels from 1-3:30pm, both moderated by writer/editor Alice Osborn. Author panels include Suzanne Adair, Anne Barnhill, Diane Chamberlain, Sara Claytor, Patricia Terrell, Richard Krawiec, Bruce Lader, Alexandra Sokoloff, and Perry Deane Young.
Panels to include: "Where Do You Get Your Ideas?" and "All About the Creative Process" and "Your Road to Publication."
Publishing Forum with Jon Batson 3:30-4:30pm at Falls River Books
Jon Batson of Midnight Whistler Publishers (http://www.JonBatson....) will moderate the next panel discussion with local publishers Algonquin, Ivy House, Press 53. Midnight Whistler Publishers, Outerbanks Publishing and. The one-hour session will take place at Falls River Books from 3:30 – 4:30pm. Attendees will learn about submission guidelines and other information writers need to know to get their works published. Hosting is shop owner Steven Elliot (http://www.FallsRiver.... Several publishers will be accepting manuscripts for review.
Following this session there will be an Open Mic at Falls River Books (see below)

Join us for a Sunday evening of local literary talent following the Authors Showcase. The first fifteen people to sign up with Megan Cutter in advance will be able to read their poetry, short fiction, or memoir. Each person will read for five minutes. Or come out and listen! Enjoy refreshments: wine, cheese, and other assorted goodies along with fellowship with your fellow readers and listeners!

OrganizerI loved being a part of this first annual event and making it come together like it did! All of the efforts paid off since I know everyone had a great time. We networked with authors, learned from their experiences and then we networked with publishers and learned from them, too! I wish I could have stayed for Megan's Open Mic -- I know it was great fun! See you all next year at the 2nd Annual Authors' Showcase. -

Assistant OrganizerOn a cold, gray North Carolina day, with rain threatening, 22 brave souls came out to hear eight wonderful authors and some intrepid publishers discuss the art and business of writing. As usual, Steven Elliot was a wonderful host, Megan Cutter and Alice Osborn were wonderful organizers and moderators and several others helped to make this a full and complete event. If I say so myself, I didn't do a half-bad job myself. Steven said, "Not bad for a first annual event." I concur. Let's do it again next year - perhaps earlier in the fall. ~ Jon Batson
