Voices of Reason—Daniel Korostyshevsky: Crowd for Discovery

Crowd for Discovery: Changing the paradigm of science funding

The current state of funding basic science leaves much to be desired. In his talk, Daniel Korostyshevsky will give a brief history of the major public science funding institutions. He will then discuss the issues with the current model of funding basic research and introduce some examples of alternative methods of funding research. As a case study, we will examine crowd funding as a viable alternative to the current funding model and its associated benefits and criticisms.

Daniel Korostyshevsky is a researcher with eight years of experience in both academic and industrial biotech laboratories. He is currently doing research in neuroscience at Columbia University that has been in part funded by a Rocket Hub project some months back. They aim to answer specific long standing questions about how amphetamine related drugs effect neurons.

This talk will be followed by a reception with wine and light fare.

Open to the public.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
