I think I gave the wrong time earlier, lets all try to be in the water by 10:00 - 10:30 rentals open at 9:00 and it will take a while to get everyone set up. If you have your own kayak we can launch at 1401 NE Boat St. this is a block away from Aqua Verde Cafe and Paddle Club, The Parking Fee is $2.00 an Hour, we will launch and kayak up to the rental place.

Meet at 10am it can take a while to get everyone in the water. Depending on the group size, we may break up into small groups. and meet back up for lunch. Are there any other attendees planning to bring their own kayaks? I can't imagine we will be able to launch from Agua Verde. Maybe we should coordinate a launch nearby a little earlier so we can meet up with the rest of the group by 10am?

    June 2, 2014

    • Richie

In the past Agua Verde has been very touchy about non-renters using their docks.

Also, McCurdy Park is a great launch site for the Arboretum and Lake Union, plus parking is plentiful and free (unlike the Udistrict).

I just got moved from third place on waiting list to fourth and now to fifth not sure why?

    June 2, 2014

  • Malia J.

I need to rent a kayak. Do I need to reserve one or will you be calling in a group rental? Thanks!

    June 2, 2014

    • Malia J.

In reading the post again looks like they don't take reservations?

I guess you answered my question

      June 2, 2014

Its also worth noting 520 is closed this weekend so there may be more traffic than usual in the area (and a detour for some of us Eastsiders).

Thanks Wendy. I rent kayaks from Aqua Verde as often as possible. Was out about 2 weeks ago and talked a friend w some experience into going thru Montlake Cut. I'm not sure she will ever do it again, at least that is what she said afterwards. The large boats were fairly obnoxious and way too close even though we hugged the edges. And this was on a Wednesday! In any case, fellow kayakers should have some experience if we're planning on going through the Montlake Cut and probably plan for 1 1/2 to 2 hours to enjoy the Arboretum waters next to Foster Island. The only direction is usually pretty tame of a kayak trip, but not as interesting. I hope this isn't too much info....I'm looking forward to kayaking!

Darcy, thanks, lets check it out when we get there and see what the group wants to do. never to much info, I appreciate your imput.

      June 2, 2014

  • Wendy K.

If you are planning to rent a kayak, please plan to arrive when they open at 9, it takes time to get set up. I don't think they will run out of kayaks, for those that have their own kayaks, plan to be in the water by 10- 10:15.

    June 2, 2014

  • Heather

I am third on the waitlist- I'm staying positive :) I am going to be renting- do they typically sell out rentals if you don't reserve in advance?

    June 1, 2014

  • David S.

Anyone have an extra seat in a kayak? other wise I'll be renting

Mafalda, sorry u have an injury. I have had bad injuries and the helpful people on dock will help u into and out of kayak. They have paraplegics come down there to use kayaks. So it's still possible for u to go : )

      May 31, 2014

  • Kristine

I think you asked for an update. I am still planning to go and will need to rent a kayak. Thanks!

I'm excited to be attending this, to meet other kayakers and to be back at Aqua Verde. It's just me though, and I don't know how to remove the +1 and keep my reservation. I am sure there is a priority for who is on wait list.

    May 25, 2014

    • Wendy K.

No worries Darcy, I'm sending out an email asking for people to change there RSVP if they can't make it. we are so far down 2 your +1 and Pete, so congratulations to Jennifer and Linda Medeo you have move in to Going status!! The Mercer Slough had 25 sign ups and 6 actually attended

  • Pete M.

I am going to have to drop out, will be out of town. Thanks!

Is there a possible way to break this up into two paddle groups since the wait list is so huge? Maybe several very experienced paddlers could lead separate groups???? Or maybe one group could launch out of a different location and then meet up later?

    May 15, 2014

    • Wendy K.

Many people drop off when the event gets closer. however if you would like to set something else up, your free to do so, anyone can post events.
