Volunteers are needed to help build a 5 mile section of the North Country National Scenic Trail along a railroad right-of-way between Colfax and Walcott about 40 miles southwest of Fargo. The work involves hiking to and from the work sites over somewhat rough ground, clearing brush with loppers and saws, and leveling the trail surface with mattocks and shovels. There may also be some structures like board walks to build in wet areas. We stress safety and caution at all times when we are doing this type of relatively hard physical work. Volunteers should be in good health, be able to hike several miles, and come prepared with appropriate clothes, boots, gloves, hats, water and lunch. All required tools will be provided. We will gather in the Colfax School parking lot at 9:30 a.m. for a discussion of the work assignments and a safety review. Then we will carpool a couple miles to a location near the work site where we can leave the vehicles. The work day length is flexible but we will probably work at least 3-4 hours with occasional breaks as necessary. There are no toilets along the trail route but bushes are available for privacy.
If the weather that day turns out to be so nasty that it seems prudent to cancel the work day, I will send out an e-mail message via the Meetup system by 8:00 a.m.
If you want to carpool to Colfax or are willing to take riders with you, please send a note to the Meetup list to make arrangements.
If you have any questions about the work day, please feel free to contact me directly ([masked]).
