NCT Hike and Back Country Camping

Plan to spend this weekend hiking the North Country Trail in the Baldhill Creek area which is North of Valley City along Lake Ashtabula. This area is south of the West Crossing and we will be entering the hike at the Crossing and heading south approx 7 miles to the backcountry camp site next to Baldhill Creek Wildlife Management Area. On Satiurday, July 21, will plan to car pool from the Rosebud Visitor Center on Main Street, Valley City at 9: AM and then we will proceed to the Corps Office at Baldhill Dam by 9:45 AM. After we all gather and pack our gear into a Corps vehicle, we will proceed to the West Crossing where we will park some vehicles for the weekend.
Please take note: Because the Corps staff has agreed to transport the gear (so we do not have to carry it all in) we will ask you to RSVP your plans to camp with the group by Monday, July 16th!!!! This will also help with food planning since the Sheyenne River Valley Chapter of the NCT will provide the evening and breakfast meal for all that take part! Please RSVP to Deb Koepplin at [masked] by Monday, July 16th!

What should I pack? You will need to pack a sack lunch for your noon meal, sunscreen, water and bug spray and these items you will carry with you on the hike. Items that you may send with the Corps will include: tent, sleeping bag and mats, personal items including change of clothes, a folding chair to sit on around the campfire, and anything else you need for the day and evening. We will provide food drinks, firewood, TP and grill. After arriving at the campsite the group will set up camp and may do additional hiking in the area.
After a breakfast on Sunday morning, we will be packed up b y 10:30 AM when the Corp will come back to pick up our stuff! We will then decide to hike back out to the vehicles the same 7 miles or offer alternatives to hike out further to the south or west.
Scott Tichy is helping with mowing the site for us and coordinating the staff to assist and transport for us that weekend. Thanks, Scott!
