Brief history of the falls: Whiskeytown Falls For over 40 years this 220-foot waterfall was only a secret to the few that new it existed. For a variety of reasons, some people decided not to share the falls' existence with others. Today, people from all over the world have heard about the hidden secret. After two summers of work, the National Park Service opened the trail to Whiskeytown Falls. The trail itself has been named in honor of James K. Carr, one of Redding’s native sons. By developing the Carr Trail, Whiskeytown continues to expand on its exceptional recreational opportunities for the public. The trail has been closed for sometime due to the 2008 fires at Whiskeytown. Let's get together and hike it before it closes again. The park is worried about mud slides with the up coming rains and it is unknown how long it will be closed when the rains start. For more information, photos, & directions to the falls check out this website: Waterfall of California - Whiskeytown This is a short 1.7 mile out and back hike. Perfect for a Sunday afternoon outing Carpooling available for those who need a ride. Please RSVP There is a $5 park fee per vehicle unless you have an annual NPS Park Pass Pack a light snack and bring water Great Photo Ops, bring your camera

Finally, we made this hike. The weather was absolutely perfect. Not to hot, not to cold. Blue skies and puffy white clouds most of the day giving into great photo ops. It was good to see everyone enjoying the falls. Some of us where at the bottom while other shimmied up the side of the falls for a better look. Great day all around!!
