Learning Ruby for the Web
presented by Ryan Briones Building web applications has become the status quo when learning to program, and Ruby is evermore prevalent due to the popularity of Rails. Even though Rails transformed the way we build web applications, I'm here to tell you: If you're trying to learn Ruby by learning Rails, you're doing it all wrong. In this talk I'll show you how to take simple Ruby objects and turn them into working Ruby web applications. Then we'll build on our app by tapping into the thriving ecosystem of Ruby tools which allow us to take our ideas to the next level and simplify our process. In the end, we'll have a suite of applications that truly embody modular design.

Monthly Site Critique
led by Steven Walker As usual, we plan to wrap up the event with a site critique. This is a highly interactive, rapid-fire segment led by different web professional each month. The leader will choose the site in question and prepare a few notes ahead of time in order to guide the group. This month's leader, Steven Walker, is the lead UI designer at Groupon. It should be a great analytical segue to more conversation and drinks after the meetup, so stick around!
8:30pm Head over to Dylan's for continued conversation and drinks

Ryan is a good presenter. As a non-Ruby user, I appreciated the clarity of his presentation.

I'm kind of new to the development scene so Ruby was new to me. It was far more advanced than I thought it would be. But I was able to follow alone and get ideas of the concept of it very well. :-)

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
