THE GIVER

1 HR 37 MINS MOVIE STARTS AT 10:55AM.
A young man living in a future where complacency is valued above all else discovers the sinister secrets that hold his fragile society together after being selected to become the Receiver of Memory in this adaptation of author Lois Lowry's Newbery Medal-winning young-adult novel. Jonas (Brenton Thwaites) was raised to believe that conformity is the key to contentment. The society Jonas lives in is a peaceful one, in large part because their collective memories have been entrusted to the Giver (Jeff Bridges). A mysterious yet seemingly benevolent figure, the Giver is the sole guardian of the community's dark and hidden history. When that history is revealed to Jonas over the course of his illuminating sessions with the Giver, the young man learns that the wisdom he now holds could dictate the fate of the entire society. Later, as the weight of that responsibility becomes too great a burden for Jonas to bear, he realizes that his only hope of saving the ones he loves most is to flee. Unfortunately for Jonas and perhaps his entire world, every previous attempt to escape has ended in failure. Meryl Streep, Alexander Skarsgård, and Katie Holmes star in a film from director Phillip Noyce (Rabbit-Proof Fence, The Quiet American).

I finally got to see THE GIVER. I enjoyed the premise of the movie. The scene where the graduates were chosen for their new tasks reminded me of DIVERGENT where the teens were chosen for their new factions. The importance of an overly regulated society takes the fun out of life is what I am getting from these movies. LOL.

The Giver was a welcome change from what I've seen so much of on the big screen lately: excessively loud explosions and superheroes beating the crap out of villains and profanity beyond what is reasonable. It was just my cuppa tea: a movie about the importance of emotion. We need to feel stuff. Okay, maybe that's a little simplistic, or maybe life is just that simple.

The Giver stayed close to the theme of the Newberry Award Book, celebrating the differences that make us HUMAN, while poking fun at those who value conformity too highly.

We may have another priority on this day....if we can finish some tasks....we may be there.

EXPENDABLES 3 delivered the action I expected and crave. It also made way for a continuation of the chain. Brilliant.

The Giver. Meryl Streep, Jeff bridges and Alexander Skarsgärd in the same place at the same time can only mean success.

The Giver has been one of my favorite books most of my life so the film I would choose. Expendables will be light and funny and would enjoy that too.

I loved the book The Giver, and they do not give out Newberry Awards for nothing, so this is my choice. Expendables should be a typical high action movie with the advantage of having some of the best in the field as leading men. I would enjoy it I'm sure, but Robin not so much.

Cops should be pure comedy and might be fun! However, it will be just as funny on DVD in a few months.
