Walking the lost railway lines of North London
Date: Sunday 7th April 2013
Times: Starting at 11:00am at Finsbury Park Station
Length: 5 mile/ 8km circular walk
A popular walk through the woods and along the tree lined footpaths of the old hidden rail track beds of the lost railway lines of North London. In its heyday the railway carried 60,000 passenger a day but was closed in 1954 and is now the Parkland Walk.
Total walking will be about 2.5 hours covering a leisurely paced 5 miles. Leaving Finsbury Park Station we'll head north through Finsbury Park. Our route will take us through Queen's and Highgate woods and onwards to Alexandra Park with fantastic views across London.
We will stop for lunch in a cafe/bar. We’ll place orders when we meet but if you prefer, bring a packed lunch. We'll return to Finsbury Park Station by bus.
Level of fitness:
General – easy.
You will need:
- Walking boots. There will be some muddy areas.
- Money for lunch/refreshments
- Waterproof jacket
- You may wish to bring a camera
- Money or oyster card for public transport
£3.00 We recommend payment in advance via paypal but if you are a regular walker with the group, please contact us about paying on the day in cash.
We will start the walk at 11:00am from Finsbury Park Station. There is no planned tube closures on the Victoria or Piccadilly lines on the date of the walk. We should be back at Finsbury Park Station for around 4:00pm
