Are We Free, Are We Determined?

Do we have Free Will or is everything Determined? How do we choose?

If you are a supporter of Determinism, do you think rape victims are determined? Did Adam Lanza freely choose to shoot and kill children, or did his mental state predetermine his actions? Are people born with good and/or evil in them?

If you are a supporter of Free Will, do you agree with Darwinian Evolution? Does experience alter the ability to choose freely (example: a kid touches a stove and it's hot, will their knowing the stove it hot determine they won't touch it again or are they choosing not to touch it again)? Do people choose to be evil or good?

Is it possible to have both; is it possible to have free will within a determined frame work, Or have determinism in a free will framework?

Let's try to tackle this massive topic and see where we come out!

Learned about this too late and Annapolis is a bit of a hike...but am fascinated with the idea (Ph.D. in philo by training and am "interested in everything and nothing else" (with apologies to Susan Sontag). :-)

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
