NEW!! We're kicking off the Computational Photography SIG
Note - the maximum # able to attend this event is 50. The Hackers and Founders reservation slots are filled and soon the Renegade slots will be booked. There is a wait list. No walk-ins will be permitted due to site space limitations.
The workshop with Joshi will happen within 2 to 3 weeks after this event.
** Event parking is free and plentiful just outside the clubhouse.
Please patronize the bar and kitchen!
Renegade is proud to announce a fabulous co-hosted networking event with the incredible Hackers and Founders Meetup group, plus special guest Bhautik Joshi, a research engineer at a major Bay Area visual effects company. Bhautik is founder of cow.mooh.org and he'll be leading the RPS Lens Hack workshop in mid-February.
This is the first of many networking events with a mission to initiate community and collaboration amongst imaging industry peers. We'll tackle challenges, stunts and workshops with like-minded individuals interested in the science of imaging:
* start-ups and developers
* photographers
* inventors and hackers
* educators and students
* imaging industry vendors are all welcome
Sign-up early to ensure a spot. Plenty of free and nearby parking in the golf course lot. Please patronize the bar... the kitchen is open til 6pm so order pronto if you wish any food.
** The Lens Hack workshop will follow in a week or two and will be fee-based. Additional information coming soon.
About Computational Photography
The phrase computational photography may not yet have broad reach and understanding within most audiences, but advances are decidedly affecting more than just scientists and photographers. Computational photography’s domains straddle high science: medicine, geology, topography, security; but also reach the familiar: digital photos in the family album or even Flickr site. This is an emerging multi-disciplinary field shaped by the study of:
- optics
- signal processing
- computer graphics
- electronics
- art
- online social networks
Unbounded dynamic range, variable focus, resolution and depth of field, hints about shape, reflectance and lighting, and new interactive forms of photos comprised of partly snapshot/ partly video are just a few aspects of this space. Read more.
Wow, this promises to be an exciting SIG! Cameras have morphed into computers with optical i/o - the possibilities are incredible!
Hi, I'm still on the waiting list here - but I just got a Yahoo calendar reminder. Did I get accepted for this? If so, that's a little sad because it's 6pm right now I can't possibly get there in time :( But I'm very interested in the topic so could you please keep me posted on any other time this topic comes up??? Thanks!
The Yahoo calendar reminders and Meetup work independently of each other as far as I know. If you were on the waiting list and Meetup sent you a notice such as "Space just opened.... you are on the attendee list" then that's what you should heed.
I didn't get such a note. I visited this page at 6pm last night and was still listed as being on the waiting list. There were 17 listed as Attending as of last night. However, right now the page says 21 people attended. What happened?
Hi, lesson learned, I guess. In the future it's probably a good idea to show up anyway and trust the best will happen :) Sounds like it was a great event!

Kudos to Laura and Jonathan of H&F for supporting this new SIG
