Reno Freethinkers 2nd Annual Festivus Party and Food Drive

In place of our December meeting, come celebrate Festivus with us!  Join us for a lot of fun around the Festivus Pole, along with the traditional Airing of Grievances and Feats of Strength.

We will be holding our 2nd annual food drive to benefit the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. Last year we donated over 190 pounds of food, and this year we'd like to double that!*

Finger food and non-alcoholic beverages will be on hand. If you'd like to supplement our goodies with a side dish or goodie of your own (dessert or something else), please do, but this is not a requirement for attending!  However, if you wish to imbibe, please Bring Your Own Libation. We'll provide the ice, bottle openers and cups!

*If you cannot attend but still would like to donate food to the food bank, you can drop it off at Carissa's house any time before the party. Just knock! (Or leave it on the front porch, if we're not home).

What kind of food can you donate? From the Food Bank's web site:
We are often asked what the most needed items are when collecting food for those who need assistance. Below is a list you can print out and share with others who are collected food with you.

* Canned Meals: stews, soups, spaghetti/ravioli

* Protein Products: peanut butter, tuna, salmon, chicken

* Grains: cereal, oatmeal, rice, pasta, dried beans

* Fruits: Canned, fruit cups, dried fruit, applesauce, juice boxes

* Canned Vegetables

* Shelf Stable Milk

* Kid-friendly Items: granola bars, popcorn, animal crackers, graham crackers

* Baby Products: formula, infant cereal (please NO glass)

Please DO NOT donate expired food, perishable food, home-made food, food in glass containers, any food that has been opened, rusty or unlabeled food, alcohol.

Monetary donations also gladly accepted!

    As noted in the invitation, Reno Freethinkers will be supplying food for this party (alcohol is up to you). However, some of you have expressed an interest in bringing something to our Festivus Party.

    Yes, please do!! Potluck is always welcome (but not required to attend).

    If you are planning on bringing something, please let us know what you want to bring. This will help the Festivus Committee plan for our food and drink purchases (and not repeat something already in the works). We already know Chris is bringing eggnog!

      4 cups bourbon
      2¼ cups sugar
      12 large egg yolks
      8 cups whipping cream

      Pour bourbon into large mixing bowl. Stir in sugar and let sit several hours. Overnight, if you can wait. Beat egg yolks until they are an ugly yellow color. Fold them into the bourbon and sugar mixture. Let sit for two hours if you can wait. Whip the cream until very stiff, fold into the bourbon and egg mixture. Let sit for one hour if you can wait. Mixture may be cut in half if you are clever enough to know how to divide 2¼ by two! Serve in cups. Serves 20–30 people. Nutmeg not permitted! ENJOY.
