Republicans campaign for the abolition of the monarchy, and an end to centuries of privilege based on birth-right alone. Right now, in the 21st century, the Monarchy is acting in its own interests, often behind closed doors, and undermining the principles of democracy and equality. Because the monarch is not only Head of State, but also Defender of the Faith, he or she stands between us and the secular state a modern society should be.
We meet to share views and discuss issues related to the monarchy and democracy but also to arrange local area leafleting campaigns, school talks and other means of spreading the message of Republic to a wider audience, and generating thought and discussion amongst those who may not have paid much attention to this issue in the past.
We're called Egalitarians to avoid confusion with the American Republican political party. Further, anyone who values egalitarianism cannot stand back and ignore the issue of monarchy which is the epitome of the very opposite.
