Wrecks with Diver Down - Friday

  • Jul 19, 2013 · 7:00 AM
  • Diver Down

Captain Bobby had a group cancellation and is looking to fill spots for the weekend of July 20.  He actually needs folks for the 19th, 20th and 21st -- I'm going to set up separate events for each day, because I know I can't do the Friday.

Spear fishers are always welcome on Bobby's boats, and cost is $120/diver/day.

Safety sausage required, Nitrox strongly recommended.  :-)

After I get an idea of how many are interested, I will see about collecting deposits.

I will be staying at the Holiday Inn Express Morehead City. No roommate needed. What time are we scheduled to leave the doc Saturday morning?

Does anyone need a roommate? I can either find you someone, or if enough people need a roommate I will get the bunkhouse. Just double checking. Fisherman's Inn[masked] has regular rooms available for $97 / night + tax. If the trip cancels due to seas, Fisherman's Inn will refund your $. As Laura mentioned, ping her or me for carpooling. Anything you need we are here to help, so just ask!

I didn't hear from anyone, so released the bunk house today. I did get a question about carpooling, so post a comment if you are looking for a ride or wouldn't mind a passenger.

    Hey Allen,
I think we can pretty much go wherever we want -- Bobby said he has 6 fishers confirmed, and they are looking to fill the minimum of 10 so that the boat will run all three days. I would prefer to stick to wrecks, but don't mind doing one dive on a live bottom if I know that I'm diving both Saturday and Sunday. :-) I wouldn't mind trying to snag a lobster, myself!

Aimee, it's a breeze to get Nitrox cert. It's just an online study and then a written test. No pool or dive required. I'm pretty sure it's less than $100. Frederick is right- it will double your dive time and also you'll feel better after the dive with less fatigue.

Aimee, have you done any diving at all in the past 6 years? I certainly don't want to discourage you from coming on the trip, but this particular charter may not be the best way to ease back into diving. Weather and seas permitting, we will be heading 30-40 miles offshore, and diving depths at 85'+ on the wrecks or 100'+ on the ledges. We may have currents and swells to deal with, as well. If you are comfortable with all of that, then you can certainly dive air at those depths. Like Frederick and Allen said, though, Nitrox will buy you more bottom time and you'll feel better after the dives.

I should probably mention that the likelihood of diving the Indra with Captain Bobby is "slim" to "none". Hahaha!

Although, ironically, the only time I have actually dove the Indra is with Captain Bobby. LOL.

How funny! I have NEVER been to the Indra with Bobby, but you went last summer, right? On a day when all of the other operators canceled dives and Bobby was the only one who went out? My buddy Joel flew in from Texas for a dive weekend a few years ago, and we booked with Olympus -- dove 3 of 4 dives on the Indra! Blah!

    Hi Laura,
Great trip! Diver Down is an awesome boat and crew. Can you tell me if we are going Offshore on all days? (I love the Papoose, Naeco and Live Bottom is a super spot for spearing and lobsters). I'm interested in any days offshore we can do spearing / lobsters.
