How to Solder - special guest facilitator Emilie Giles of Codasign
A workshop for women by women, to boost our confidence, share skills and together get more involved in electronics repair. (This workshop is also open to anybody who has a non-binary gender identity, along the lines of London Bike Kitchen's WaG nights.)
There are no experts here, please bring your skills and be prepared to learn and help others.
Soldering is a key skill to fix broken circuits and deal with loose contacts, connections and parts in electronics. There are obviously different levels of difficulty from headphone repair to intricate component-level repairs, but the key here is getting started...
• intro and welcome
• learn how to solder through a fun exercise involving LEDs
• if time allows... bodging/repairing! (BYO gadget)
Directions: Makerversity is located at Somerset House's West Water Gate on Victoria Embankment (riverside) - not off of the Strand. Our gate is used by cars/vans for deliveries. Because our main entrance is under construction, you will need to continue on, under the arch into a small delivery courtyard, and take a left through an open tunnel (with scaffold on top). Continue past the mail room and take your first left through an open door. Come through either of the yellow doors and you've found us.
