This book was another top choice of our poll.  It is being offered through Loudoun County Libraries for FREE!  Pick up your copy today!  Deah has graciously donated two of these books, please re-distribute when you're done reading it.  Thank you!

William Kamkwamba was born in Malawi, a country where magic ruled and modern science was mystery. It was also a land withered by drought and hunger. But William had read about windmills, and he dreamed of building one that would bring to his small village a set of luxuries that only 2 percent of Malawians could enjoy: electricity and running water. His neighbors called him misala—crazy—but William refused to let go of his dreams. With a small pile of once-forgotten science textbooks; some scrap metal, tractor parts, and bicycle halves; and an armory of curiosity and determination, he embarked on a daring plan to forge an unlikely contraption and small miracle that would change the lives around him.

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind is a remarkable true story about human inventiveness and its power to overcome crippling adversity. It will inspire anyone who doubts the power of one individual's ability to change his community and better the lives of those around him.

    Hi everyone,
Ann wanted me to let everyone to know that she will not be able to come to book club tonight. She had an accident yesterday and she is in the ER with a broken elbow. She's in a lot of pain. So let's send lots of happy thoughts to her.

Guys, Please don't be annoyed with me. I just took on another radio interview for this evening. My schedule is pretty full so I felt I had to accept.

I'm only about 1/3 into the book but I can already tell there will be a lot to discuss. I'm sorry I have to miss it.

See you all soon. Hopefully sooner rather than later. I miss you guys.

Let's see - we have a dessert fruit salad & some wine coming. My guess is we probably need another dessert - along with more drinks (variety) - as well as a couple of appetizers. What do you think Afsaneh & Alka??? Thanks to all that have offered to bring food thus far.

I'm away on business Monday - Wednesday evening, which will pretty much preclude making anything interesting. Ok to bring wine for the first time? Otherwise its store-bought apps for me.

If anyone would like to carpool to Afsaneh's house for this event, please let me know. I am happy to drive, and can take three more with me. Please write to me and let me know if you would like to carpool. Afsaneh, I will bring a big bowl of fresh, seasonal fruit. OK?

Trudie - thanks much, but apparently Alka and Afsaneh are neighbors in Vienna (they just met tonight at the meeting), and have decided to host together. Besides, I think you need a break this month!!! Would you like to co-host with me for Brain on Fire the following month?
