Resume FEEDBACK! Review and Inspiration by a Professional Resume Writer

Free workshop. The number of rspv's is restricted to allow addressing specific concerns of attendees. Bring your resume(s) and cover letter, too. We'll unleash all the expertise in the room to strengthen your resume. Using techniques from marketing, we will  demonstrate ways to claim the job you want, emphasize strengths, and re-energize your resume. The presenter will show examples of resumes that communicate quickly and clearly--and even break the mold when that serves the purpose. Handouts cover gaps in employment, transitioning to new job categories, and sorting through the dilemmas of resume writing, such as one page/two page resumes, what to include or delete, dates, and many other issues. The informal workshop focuses on the issues of participants and is intended to help attendees gain confidence in taking next steps. The presenter has written hundreds of resumes across industries, job functions and experience levels.

We focused on ways to jolt the resume reader from the glazed-over trance they can succumb to from viewing resume after resume – how to break up the space on the first third of the page to guide the reader’s eye – how to be state a claim on the job category targeted – how to show the most powerful “sell” arguments” with impact – and eye-blinking speed. The at-a-glance approach is intended to capture attention that, if relevant, will compel the reader to devote more time and higher quality attention to the full resume. Our discussion ranged over ways to apply this approach in each group member’s resume.
