Hello all,

This is not your typical hiking event. This is a charter on a gorgeous 50' Hatteras Sport Fishing Yacht out of Newport, RI. We'll shove off at 1:00 pm, spend several hours on the bay, then return to Newport and enjoy the rest of the day there and/or at local restaurants/night spots.

The yacht is call Reel Trouble and is captain'd by a good friend of mine. He's a licensed captain and has been running charters out of Newport for many years. The website is:

http://www.reeltroublecharters.com/default.asp

He is docked at the Goat Island Marina:

A few years ago, I was his first mate:

A half day charter is typically a $600 event, but since we're friends, this is only a $20 per person for 10 people (max). Bring $20 with you the day of the charter. This covers diesel and the first mate costs (I'm not the first mate for this. I want to have fun!). We'll want to tip out the first mate too.

Only sign up if you can *definitely* go. Space is limited so no plus 1's for this one.

I'm going to request that the bow jacuzzi is installed...

Just getting home!! What a wonderful day. Thanks Matt, I LOVE being out on the water and great sharing time with terrific people. Getting together for a bite to eat afterwards just extended the fun!!!! I met some friends at Common Fence Point Music in Portsmouth for their opening season concert. So I'm tired, relaxed and very content. (:

I live in ma. I m new to this group. I do a LOT of hiking n h. I love boats and am excited about this. I go to the in the water boat show every year. In fact I will go sunday. Traffic and parking is TOUGH. Its busy. in fact they direct u to a far side of newport with a shuttle bus to the show. So to be safe I m going to get there more than an hour early. I will bring a book in case theres time to kill. Question: could we have a name and phone number of someone to call if need directions or otherwise? And should we bring food, drinks, etc? I will bring a bunch of wine coolers. Dont worry, I'm not much of a drinker.

I emailed my contact info to all attending. It's only a few hours so food is up to you. Eat before, during or after. BYOB...drink as much as you want. I will be there early so if you arrive early, call me and you can probably go to the boat ahead of time. Depends on the captain's schedule.

    • Matt

Hi Mark, Per the information above, this event is 10 people max. It is full and there are 13 on the wait list. You were last to sign up on the wait list. I don't think you'll be able to go since there'd need to be a lot of cancellations for you to move up to "attending".

Actually, here's a question. I don't know this marina> Can we park there? Or any other suggestions as to where to park?

    September 2, 2013

    • Matt

Park on Goat Island before the Marina shack on the left side facing the water. There's a long row of parking spots the entire length.

      September 3, 2013

    • Matt

There's also the parking garage right off of America's Cup Ave. From there just walk across the Goat Island Causeway to the marina. There are metered spots along the parking garage road too.

Just a caution, I believe this is the weekend of the In The Water boat show with massive crowds and difficult parking. Figure plenty of time to get there.

    September 2, 2013

    • Matt

Goat Island will not be as bad during the boat show because of its location. But definitely leave a lot of time for traffic and parking.

    Looking good in the uniform.
