The Steere Hill area in Chepachet, RI is comprised of four abutting parcels acquired from 1967 to 2010 with a total of 448 acres. We will be hiking on trails in the Philips Farm, Steere Hill, and Heritage Park properties. The Glocester Land Trust (GLT) manages the first two properties.

The 68 acre Phillips Farm was the first property acquired by the GLT in 1990.

The 208 acre Steere Hill Nature Preserve was acquired by the GLT in 2002.

Heritage Park, is a 115 acres woodland acquired by the Town of Glocester in 1967 as part of the state’s Green Acres program.

The trails feature some small hills as they wind through the woods and fields. The trails may have some wet areas, so a pair of hiking boots is suggested. Come prepared with bug spray for protection from ticks and other insects. As always bring water and snacks along for the trail.

We will be using a parking lot just off the Putnam Pike (Rt 44). It is almost across from the Harmony Post Office. If you are traveling west on Rt 44, the parking lot will be on your left.

Thanks John. It was a lovely hike on a beautiful morning with a lively group of nice people. A couple of Ibuprofen and the shoulder is as good as new, or should I say as good as it was before my ill advised gymnastic adventure.

Really neat trails through woodlands & field.....with something "unusual" in the woods. Thanks, John H for taking the time to share the walk with all of us. The group was sociable & seemed to enjoy the time together.

A nice morning hike, with a good mix of long-time and newer group members. Steere Hill has a nice mix of terrain, and we had an ideal day to enjoy it. We added a Christmas photo and a gymnastic demonstration to the hike to give us a little variety.
