George B, Parker Woodland is an 860 acre property in Coventry, RI, owned by the Audubon Society. This is a favorite of the club . It has brooks running through it’s old forest land, and the foundation of an 18th century farmhouse. It is perhaps best known for the many rock cairns on the property. Nobody is certain who built them, when they were built, or why they were built. We will be doing the Coventry Loop only for the Weber Hike #22.
There is lots of history with many more things to be seen . With the rocky trails and stream crossings, a pair of hiking boots is strongly suggested. Please bring plenty of water and hydrate before the hike . Insect repellent is a must. We will hike at moderate to fast pace.
A Good footwear is required since we will hiking over rocky trails and stream crossings . Please bring drinking water (1 Liter), snacks and insect repellent.
Hunting season has begun so Blaze Orange is Recommened.
From Providence, take Route I-95 south to RI 102 North (exit 5B). Follow RI 102 North for about 10 miles. Turn right (east) onto Maple Valley Road (across 102 on the left is Waterman Hill Road). Turn into second driveway on the left by the Parker Woodland Wildlife Refuge sign.
