Caratunk Wildlife Refuge - Hiking 101

  • Nov 8, 2013 · 11:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Rating:  Level 1 -2 fairly easy only one rocky hill to climb, however it is uneven terrain w/ roots and some  rocks in some areas.

Distance: About  4- 4.5

Duration about 2 hours

Please read this entire write up before signing up for this hike. And understand and agree to the liability waiver.

This will be an easy hike, about 4.5 miles. There are some  very muddy boggy areas on this hike, I would suggest boots over sneakers This will be just a fun outing to enjoy being outside.   We will move at a brisk pace. As always make sure you have plenty of water, bring snacks.....the usual.

The Caratunk Wildlife Refuge provides a protected and diverse habitat for native plants and animals as well as many educational programs. Six miles of well-marked trails are maintained for public use and easy walking in the quiet and natural setting.

Owned and managed by the Audubon Society of RI, Caratunk was established in 1971. The trials weave through nearly 200 acres of fields, forests, and wetlands. Trails are open only to the following activities: hiking, bird watching, nature study, photography, ski touring, and snowshoeing.

We will be meeting in Caratunk Wildlife Refuge parking lot at 301 Brown Ave in Seekonk, Mass. at 11 AM and hiking into the refuge shortly thereafter.
