·         Shotgun season begins this weekend in RI. Let's stay out of the woods and enjoy the views of Narragansett Bay and Bristol Harbor.

Colt State Park (CSP) in Bristol is often referred to as the 'gem' of the RI State Parks System. The entire western border of the park is an open panorama onto Narragant Bay. There are 464 acres of groomed grounds that are rich in history.

The hike will consist of three connected loops of approximately 2 miles each. You can hike 1,2 or all 3 loops. One of the loops will consist of some "road" work on Poppasquash Road by the harbor. I would like to move at a brisk pace. It will be more of an "exercise" walk to take a page from Tony's book.

We will be meeting at 10:00AM  sharp at the statue of Senator Chafee across from the fishing pier parking lot in CSP. There is plenty of additional parking throughout the park.

Colt State Park is located off Hope Street (RI 114) in Bristol, RI. Headed south on RI 114, turn right onto Asylum road at the traffic light and follow Asylum Rood as it bears left to a rotary. Turn right at the rotary past a kiosk to enter the park and follow the park road (Colt Drive) to the parking lot just past the bridge. The statue of Senator Chaffee will be on the left and the parking lot is on the right.

As with any event make sure you have plenty of water and snacks. I believe it is supposed to be a nice day in the upper 40's. dress in layers, once you get moving you warm up quickly.
