Opened in October of 2011 the Maxwell Mays Wildlife Refuge is the newest of the Audubon Society's Wildlife refuges. This refuge contains diverse and high quality wildlife habitat consisting of upland forests, wetlands, streams, ponds and open meadow. The 11-acre Carr's Pond, situated entirely within the bounds of the property, is the centerpiece of the preserve. It is home to river otters as well as many types of freshwater fish and aquatic invertebrates.

As of June of this year the newest trail, the "Carr Pond Loop" has been open.

With two adjoining hiking trails consisting of loops totaling about 3 miles the hike should last about 2 hours.

Please bring some snacks and water for drinking.

The Maxwell Mays Wildlife Refuge is located at 2082 Victory Highway (RI 102) Coventry, RI 02816.

Directions: Take RT 95 South to Exit 5 to RI 102 North. Take RI 102 North 5.2 miles to the entrance to the refuge on the right.
