Short Richmond Shoreline Shuttle Walk!

(Say the name of this event as fast as you can 10 times!)

This 90-minute walk offers a wide array of scenic pleasures-- restored wetlands; sweeping views of SF Bay islands, bridges and The City; local pocket parks; and historical waypoints embedded in the Rosie the Riveter National Park.

This stroll is tailor-made for those who like to sleep in on weekends and still would enjoy a refreshing walk without it taking up too much of the day.

Bring comfortable walking shoes, any sun protection you need, and drinking water.  We could have foggy, windy weather so it might be good to stash a light layer or two in your car, just in case.

The distance is about 3 miles and, since we'll be at sea level the whole way, no ups and downs.  Still, please be aware of your fitness level and don't plan to attend unless you are confident you can manage the distance.  A Sierra Club rating for this hike would be 1A, the easiest kind.

This is a shuttle walk. The purpose of a shuttle walk is to prevent having to walk back to our cars along the exact same path we came.  It's useful in a situation where walking a loop isn't possible.  At the meeting point at Craneway we'll pile into as few cars as are needed to carry us all and we'll drive to the Pt. Isabel Regional Shoreline parking lot a few miles away.  From there we will leave the cars and walk to the Craneway Pavilion (a.k.a. Ford Assembly Plant) along the paved shoreline path.  Then we'll huddle at Cafe Pascal after the walk (optional but encouraged, see below).  Lastly, we'll need to shuttle folks back to Pt. Isabel to get their cars.  It's simpler than it sounds, and the drive time from Craneway to Pt. Isabel is only 5-10 minutes.  To do the shuttle will of course require some volunteers to shuttle folks a short distance in their cars.  If we don't have enough volunteer drivers we'll simply drop the shuttle idea and walk half as far as we had planned, then retrace our steps to the Craneway parking lot.

DIRECTIONS: We'll meet at the Craneway Pavilion's free west parking lot (i.e. NOT the one you have to enter via a security guard checkpoint).  From Hwy. 580 westbound take the Harbour Way South exit.  Stay right after exiting, then at the stoplight turn right onto Cutting Blvd.  Go a half block then turn right at the first stoplight onto Harbour Way.  Go straight for 1.0 miles until the street dead ends at the Craneway Pavilion parking lot west of the building.

I have white hair and will be wearing a straw cowboy hat with beaded band (strictly tourist grade!)  Please identify yourself to me when you arrive, as I almost certainly won't be able to recognize you from your teensy Meetup photo!

Optional but encouraged:   We'll huddle afterward for coffee at Cafe Pascal, a short drive from Craneway.  Here's a map to Cafe Pascal from Craneway:

I might be able to make this ... I hope it's OK even though I RSVP'd No because sometimes I never know how my Saturday is going to go ... Thanks!

I am so sorry I will have to miss this walk. I have made it before, it's lovely. My Saturday is filling up with chores that cannot be delayed. Enjoy!

Not sure I can make it, changing my RSVP to no just in case. Hope to make it though!

I lived in this area when I moved here from LA and loved it. I was used to walk around with my little son, not anymore around or go for a bike ride. It will be definitely nice walk!!
